PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTORATE 

SENIOR CONSERVATION OFFICER (TWO POSITIONS)

(ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT)

POSITION CODE: 250694

TASK Grade 11 (R462 384 – R642 900 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits) 

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Natural Science or Environmental Management).
  • Registered Peace Officer (advantageous).
  • An appropriate valid driver’s licence.

Key attributes and competencies:

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English are a prerequisite.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laws and bylaws.

Physical requirement of the position:

  • Constantly walking over rough terrain.
  • Work in varying temperatures.
  • Occasionally handle objects weighing five (5) – fifty (50) kg.

The physical attributes associated with this post necessitate that the incumbent is physically fit and able-bodied to perform the relevant functions, and as such, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit themselves to the Municipal Medical Doctor to be medically examined as part of the selection process.

Job purpose:

Undertaking, coordinating and directing tasks and activities in designated area associated with the promotion of environmental conservation and ethical usage of natural areas in a sustainable manner through performing duties related to the administration of marine, coastal, reserves and natural areas development of the Municipal Open Space System, promoting and monitoring the biodiversity of the Metro, enforcement of laws and bylaws, development of reserves and natural areas, creating public awareness and performance of related administrative and personnel functions supporting accomplishment of service delivery objectives encapsulated in the Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan.

As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Secondary education.
  • Grade 12 will be an added advantage.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office applications.
  • Peace Officer’s Certificate will be an added advantage.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.
  • Three to four years’ relevant work experience.

Key attributes and competencies:

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Calm, well-tempered and able to deal with difficult people.

(REVENUE MANAGEMENT AND CUSTOMER CARE)

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and registration with the South African Council for Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) as a professional associated valuer or professional valuer.
  • Valid motor vehicle licence.
  • Eight years or more relevant experience covering all aspects of the relevant valuation function.

  • Property valuation expertise.
  • Market research, data interpretation and value assessment.
  • Financial management, valuation reporting and record-keeping skills.
  • Information technology/technical proficiency.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • B.Com. degree or equivalent (NQF Level 5).
  • One to two years’ relevant experience.

Key attributes and competencies:

  • The incumbent must have detailed understanding of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Motor Accident Road Fund procedures.
  • The incumbent must have familiarity with legal procedures related to claims and recoveries.
  • Financial control and analysis.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Stakeholder engagement and reporting.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Administrative and record-keeping skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.

Job purpose:

Coordinating and controlling the key performance and result indicators associated with the processing, payment and administration of occupational injuries and diseases claims in terms of the Compensation for Occupational Diseases Act (COIDA), maintaining and submitting relevant statistics for management reporting and audit purposes, preparing documentation for all claims, legal proceedings and arrangingmeetings with relevant parties concerned.
